DAY 1 Fly to Hobart

Take a deep breath of fresh Tasmanian air and sense the southern island's rich history as you arrive into beautiful Hobart. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Hobart.

DAY 2 Hobart & Coast Small-Group Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing slow-paced start at your hotel with plenty of time to explore Hobart this morning, before your action-packed fast-boat cruise this afternoon.

With an unsurpassed natural setting, a strong sense of history, daring art, a dynamic food scene and a wealth of natural attractions there is plenty to explore. Perhaps wander through Hobart's historic waterfront featuring the magnificent old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Stroll along the working docks past the floating Brooke Street Pier and Douglas Mawson's Antarctica Hut Museum. Maybe try some fish and chips from a floating fish punt or dine in the finest and freshest of restaurants. Browse the quirky and artisan shops, or simply marvel at the incredible architecture and wander through magnificent gardens.

This afternoon we venture down the Derwent River to explore the spectacular ocean coastline on a luxury small-group cruise (with a maximum of 12 people). Discover the renowned waterways that influence Hobart's lifestyle. Visit Australia's oldest lighthouse, circumnavigate Betsey Island and uncover the city's rich maritime past.

Cruising down the Derwent River we'll pass historic Battery Point, one of Tasmania's premium residential addresses. We’ll see well-known landmarks like the iconic Wrest Point Casino and the Shot Tower. Further south, we'll truly appreciate the scale of Mount Wellington as it towers over the city. Arrive at the famous Iron Pot lighthouse, and be immersed in the fascinating history as our guide shares stories of Hobart's early settlement. Explore caves & see hundreds of seabirds. Cruising into Storm Bay, we reach Betsey Island. This uninhabited island is home to little penguins and seabirds like the majestic white bellied sea eagle, cormorants and gulls. As we circumnavigate Betsey Island, Hope Beach comes into view. This isolated beach is known for its large breaks and offshore winds. We cruise close in to the shore and feel the swell surging straight from the Southern Ocean; these conditions make this a favourite spot with local surfers. As we return to Hobart you’ll feel thoroughly refreshed, with a newfound appreciation for this beautiful harbour city.

DAY 3 Hobart City Tour

Enjoy a relaxing start to the day, before being treated to a guided tour of beautiful Hobart in the afternoon. We’ll see historic Battery Point, Salamanca Place, the Botanic Gardens, Constitution Dock, the destination of yachts participating in the Sydney to Hobart race each year, and Mt. Nelson, for breathtaking panoramic views over Australia’s southernmost city.

In the evening, we meet with the Travel Director and get to know our fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception and dinner.

DAY 4 Tour from Hobart to Strahan

We start the morning heading west to New Norfolk and Mt Field National Park, Tasmania’s oldest National Park. Mt Field National Park is home to Russell Falls, a spectacular three tiered waterfall surrounded by towering swamp gums.

Later, we continue to Strahan via Queenstown along the rainforest bordered road Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, a World Heritage listed National Park.

DAY 5 Gordon River Lunch Cruise and tour to Cradle Mountain

Enjoy a spectacular cruise along Gordon River today. Take in the beauty of the dark waters that are stained amber by buttongrass tannins. Stop at Sarah Island for an insight into the lesser known convict history of Macquarie Harbour Penal Settlement.

See Hell’s Gate and Heritage Landing before passing through the towns of Roseberry and Tullah on our way to Cradle Mountain National Park.

DAY 6 Explore Cradle Mountain and tour to Smithton

Enjoy exploring beautiful Cradle Mountain National Park this morning and visit the spectacular Dove Lake. Spot native wildlife like Bennetts wallabies, echidnas and pademelons grazing in the alpine heathlands. Travel past Table Cape, the home of tulips for views of the lighthouse, coastline and Bass Strait. View and explore “The Nut” as we pass Stanley before arriving at Smithton, our home for the night.

DAY 7 Tour from Smithton to Launceston

We leave Smithton behind us this morning, skirting Tasmania’s north coast, past the quaint townships of Burnie, Penguin and Ulverston. We make our way inland towards Sheffield, home to more than 60 murals illustrating the regions rich history. Before we arrive in Launceston, we stop at the Ashgrove Cheese Factory to witness the cheese making process and of course taste some the delicious cheeses.

Arrive in Launceston for the night, Tasmania’s northern capital.

DAY 8 Cataract Gorge

This morning, we visit the unique natural formation of the Cataract Gorge, home to the longest single-span chairlift in the world, followed by a guided tour of Launceston. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. Make the most of the free time and explore all that Launceston has to offer. Consider an optional experience on a Cataract Gorge River Cruise.

DAY 9 Launceston to Bicheno

Depart Launceston today and tour north east towards Bridestowe Lavender Estate, an estate that has been growing lavender since 1922. Try some of the lavender products at the estate and even lavender ice-cream!

Continue to Legerwood Carved Memorial trees, which were planted in honour of fallen World War I soldiers. Stop at St Helens after lunch before following the East Coast to Bicheno where you have a choice of optional tours to see the wild penguin colony as they return from the sea for the night or take a tour to see Tassie Devils.

DAY 10 Tour from Bicheno to Hobart

Take in the magnificent views of Freycinet National Park and the brilliant blue water, forests and beaches of Wineglass Bay from Cape Tourville Lookout. Freycinet National Park is home to dramatic Pink Granite mountains and abundant birdlife.

Continue travelling through Swansea and Orford before arriving in Hobart for the night.

DAY 11 Port Arthur

Immerse yourself in colonial history, exploring the World Heritage Listed Port Arthur, considered one of the world's most significant convict era sites. Cross Eaglehawk neck onto the Tasman Peninsula and enjoy a cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour Port Arthur Prison. You will also have time to explore the area on your own before you leave. Visit Pirate’s Bay lookout to take in views of the rugged sea cliffs and see the spectacular vistas of Tasman’s Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole as we tour back to Hobart. This evening, a final get together with our travelling companions over a special dinner.

DAY 12 Say Goodbye to Hobart

Today marks the end of your Tasmania adventure.
