DAY 1 Welcome to Launceston

You will be charmed by the quaint colonial feel of Launceston as you arrive into Tasmania's main northern regional centre. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Launceston.

In the evening, join your tour guide for a welcome drink and meet your fellow travellers before your exciting journey.

DAY 2 Tour from Launceston to Freycinet

Depart Launceston today and tour north east towards Bridestowe Lavender Estate, an estate that has been growing lavender since 1922. Try some of the lavender products at the estate and even lavender ice-cream!

Continue to Legerwood Carved Memorial trees, which were planted in honour of fallen World War I soldiers before visiting Pyengana Dairy to learn about the history of the farm and cheese making as well a cheese tasting. Stop at St Helens after lunch before following the East Coast to Freycinet National Park, our home for the next two nights.

DAY 3 Freycinet National Park & Wineglass Bay

Spend the day exploring beautiful Wineglass Bay today on a four hour lunch cruise of the Freycinet Peninsula. Cruise from Coles Bay under towering Pink Granite cliffs to one of the world’s best beaches where you will enjoy a gourmet Ploughman’s lunch. Later, we drive through dry eucalypt forests to Cape Tourville Lookout for a walk that will reward us with brilliant views of the stunning blue water, forest and golden beaches.

DAY 4 Freycinet to Hobart via Ross & MONA

Tour to historic Ross enroute to Hobart, considered the finest 19th century village in Australia. Treat yourself to the self proclaimed “Best Scallop Pie in Tasmania” from one of the two local bakeries before visiting the Shene Estate for a special experience.

Enjoy a walking tour with the custodian of the estate, Anne Kernke, and take in the properties stunning original buildings including the barn and stables which are a true reflection of early Australian architecture. We are invited into Anne’s private home where we will find a great collection of fine wares and can admire the original décor.

Later, enjoy a morning tea of home baked goodies before continuing our journey to Hobart.

Enroute to Hobart, visit the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Australia’s largest privately funded museum which houses an eclectic mix of ancient, modern and contemporary art. Choose to cruise back to Hobart on the MONA ferry or visit Mawson’s Hut Replica Museum.

DAY 5 Explore Port Arthur

Immerse yourself in colonial history, exploring the World Heritage Listed Port Arthur, considered one of the world's most significant convict era sites. Cross Eaglehawk neck onto the Tasman Peninsula and enjoy a cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour Port Arthur Prison. You will also have time to explore the area on your own before you leave. Visit Pirate’s Bay lookout to take in views of the rugged sea cliffs and see the spectacular vistas of Tasman’s Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole as we tour back to Hobart. This evening, a final get together with our travelling companions over a special dinner.

DAY 6 Hobart & Coast Small-Group Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing slow-paced start at your hotel with plenty of time to explore Hobart this morning, before your action-packed fast-boat cruise this afternoon.

With an unsurpassed natural setting, a strong sense of history, daring art, a dynamic food scene and a wealth of natural attractions there is plenty to explore. Perhaps wander through Hobart's historic waterfront featuring the magnificent old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Stroll along the working docks past the floating Brooke Street Pier and Douglas Mawson's Antarctica Hut Museum. Maybe try some fish and chips from a floating fish punt or dine in the finest and freshest of restaurants. Browse the quirky and artisan shops, or simply marvel at the incredible architecture and wander through magnificent gardens.

This afternoon we venture down the Derwent River to explore the spectacular ocean coastline on a luxury small-group cruise (with a maximum of 12 people). Discover the renowned waterways that influence Hobart's lifestyle. Visit Australia's oldest lighthouse, circumnavigate Betsey Island and uncover the city's rich maritime past.

Cruising down the Derwent River we'll pass historic Battery Point, one of Tasmania's premium residential addresses. We’ll see well-known landmarks like the iconic Wrest Point Casino and the Shot Tower. Further south, we'll truly appreciate the scale of Mount Wellington as it towers over the city. Arrive at the famous Iron Pot lighthouse, and be immersed in the fascinating history as our guide shares stories of Hobart's early settlement. Explore caves & see hundreds of seabirds. Cruising into Storm Bay, we reach Betsey Island. This uninhabited island is home to little penguins and seabirds like the majestic white bellied sea eagle, cormorants and gulls. As we circumnavigate Betsey Island, Hope Beach comes into view. This isolated beach is known for its large breaks and offshore winds. We cruise close in to the shore and feel the swell surging straight from the Southern Ocean; these conditions make this a favourite spot with local surfers. As we return to Hobart you’ll feel thoroughly refreshed, with a newfound appreciation for this beautiful harbour city.
