Day 1 Welcome to Cairns

Feel the warmth of Tropical North Queensland, as you arrive smell the sweet scent of the wet tropics and see expansive mangroves on your way into Cairns. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighborhood and central Cairns.

Day 2 Cairns Coach Tour & Special Sunset Dinner Cruise

The tropical paradise of Cairns is set on the azure waters of the Coral Sea. It is the gateway to tropical north Queensland, where the ancient rainforest meets the world’s biggest coral reef. Cairns is a laid-back welcoming city with an abundance of vibrancy, tropical gardens, brilliant cafés, bustling markets and mangrove parkland.

Visit St. Monica's Cathedral (featuring the world’s largest themed stained-glass windows). Explore Cairns Museum and join our exclusive guided walking tour to see highlights of the region’s past. After enjoying afternoon tea of scones and jam, a truly local delight, join our guided walk at the Botanical Gardens. We then journey to some of the best nearby scenic lookouts, including beautiful Barron Falls and spectacular Palm Cove, returning to Cairns in time to join our Special Sunset Dinner Cruise.

Set sail on spectacular Trinity Inlet and its winding tributaries for a relaxing 2.5-hour Special Sunset Dinner Cruise. Enjoy a delicious 3 course hot and cold buffet dinner with live entertainment by some of Cairns’ best local musicians as you pass along Cairns waterfront and Esplanade precinct, delivering panoramic views of the twinkling night lights of this harbour city. Trinity Inlet is a magnificent tidal estuary with waterways winding through a 300 square kilometre maze of mangroves with a rich diverse wildlife and stunning scenery. Day 3 Kuranda Scenic Railway, Rainforest Tour & Skyrail Cableway

The charming tropical village of Kuranda is set in the World Heritage Listed lush emerald Wet Tropics Rainforest. It is famous for its bohemian atmosphere, vibrant markets, cafes, galleries, shops and butterfly sanctuary. The surrounding Barron Gorge National Park features a thriving and ancient rainforest jungle, Barron River and breathtaking Barron Gorge with its cascading, thundering waterfall.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the onboard full commentary throughout the day. Journey up on to Kuranda on the historic Scenic Railway through the tropical rainforest jungle, over steep ravines and gorges and directly past picturesque waterfalls. Experience an up-close tour of the ancient rainforest and river system on-board an amphibious duck. Explore Kuranda the village in the rainforest. Travel back down, gliding just above the rainforest canopy and gorges in a Skyrail Rainforest Cableway gondola.

This famous Kuranda Scenic Railway is a remarkable journey providing unsurpassed views of thick rainforest, steep ravines, picturesque waterfalls and gorges en route to Kuranda in the Atherton Tablelands. Construction started in 1882 and it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men built the 15 handmade tunnels and 37 bridges that stand as a monument to the pioneers of tropical North Queensland. Rising from sea level to 328m, the nearly 2 hour journey from Cairns to Kuranda passes through World Heritage protected tropical rainforest, awesome Barron Gorge National Park, Barron River and Stoney Creek. Upon reaching the village of Kuranda a rich assortment of fascinating touring and unique shopping experiences awaits you. Explore the depths of the rainforest using the most appropriate transport - an amphibious World War II Army Duck with 6 wheel drive for the forest floor and a propeller and rudder for cruising the waterways. The rainforest is very ancient and complex, with some primitive plants like tree ferns dating back over 150 million years. On our unforgettable 45 minute rainforest tour, you will see and learn about massive butterflies, ferns, orchids, strangler figs, stinging trees, azure coloured kingfisher and a host of other plants, animals and reptiles. After splashing into the waterway with propeller engaged, your Army Duck cruises up to the water's edge whilst turtles, fish and eels swim up close (look out for water dragons and pythons). Today we also visit a tropical fruit orchard growing more than 60 different types of delicious tropical fruits. Spend time at your leisure wandering through the picturesque forest village with its bohemian atmosphere, cafes and famous markets featuring impressive local arts and crafts. Board your Skyrail Rainforest Cableway gondola with remarkable views of Cairns, the lush tableland region, distant mountain ranges and right out to the turquoise Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. Start your journey back down gliding metres above the rainforest canopy before descending through the canopy layers and deep into the heart of the forest at Skyrail's two rainforest mid-stations at Barron Falls and Red Peak (alight here onto rainforest boardwalks, interpretive information available through short guided boardwalk tours and an interpretive centre). Travel above Barron Gorge National Park and dense World Heritage listed rainforest. Day 4 Great Barrier Reef Cruise & Green Island

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world's most spectacular natural features, an amazing underwater world of breathtaking beauty. The reef is alive with an abundance of colourful and exotic marine life, including multi-hued angelfish, vivid-yellow butterfly fish and the clown fish of ‘Finding Nemo’ fame. Visit the beautiful idyllic coral cay of Green Island located right within the Great Barrier Reef itself. The island is an Eden of tropical rainforest, stunning white-sand beaches surrounded by magnificent technicoloured reefs teeming with diverse and wonderful marine life. You'll explore these balmy, clear waters, discovering this extraordinary underwater wonderland, your companions being huge shoals of multi-coloured damselfish, graceful butterfly fish, hawksbill turtles and charming dolphins. The islands interior is a wonderland of pristine rainforest, lush, green and verdant. You'll enjoy exciting and memorable experiences here, such as the glass-bottomed boat tour or snorkelling, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 5 Daintree, Cape Tribulation, River Cruise, Port Douglas

The World Heritage Daintree region is a tropical paradise of pristine rainforest and unbelievable white-sand beaches. The area boasts magnificent mountains draped in lush-green jungle and mighty gushing rivers. It includes spectacular destinations such as Daintree Village, the Daintree River, Snapper Island and stupendous Cape Tribulation. Highlights are the breathtaking views from Alexandra Lookout, cruising on the wildlife laden Daintree River, learning about unique Daintree wildlife like the cassowary, tree kangaroo and rat kangaroo and seeing fan palms, flying paradise kingfishers, tree frogs and butterflies of every colour. The famous Daintree Wet Tropics is far from the buzz of civilisation, combining both awe and tranquility - a true solace to the soul. It doesn't get much better than this.

Today we explore the region where the tropical rainforest literally meets the azure sea. Highlights include Port Douglas, Scenic Coastal Drive, Wildlife Habitat, Vehicular Cable Ferry, Guided Rainforest Walk, Cape Tribulation Beach, Alexandra Lookout, Daintree River Cruise, a splendid tropical lunch and the dense impenetrable jungle rainforest.

Journey north along the Cairns' Northern Beaches to Port Douglas via the Captain Cook Highway (truly one of Australia's most scenic coastal drives), head inland passing sugar cane fields towards Daintree National Park, cross the Daintree River on a cable driven ferry, stop at Alexandra Lookout to witness magnificent views of the Daintree River and azure Coral Sea, cruise the Daintree River (spotting for crocodiles, tree snakes, water birds and other wildlife as your guide takes you through the mangroves along this crocodile infested river), visit Wildlife Habitat (guided tour of the three wildlife environments - rainforest, wetlands and grasslands, including morning tea, wander along elevated boardwalks and observe up close a huge range of wildlife as birds and animals fly and roam freely, plus feed kangaroos, see crocodiles and the endangered cassowary and Lumholtz's tree kangaroo), travel deep into Daintree rainforest to enjoy a generous tropical lunch, enjoy free time to explore Cape Tribulation Beach (dazzling untrodden white sand beaches capped by an azure tropical sea, meet the dense green of the rainforest jungle, where the native palm trees grow right onto the beach sand), discover more remarkable Daintree wildlife on a guided rainforest walk (great photo opportunities). Day 6 Board the Spirit of Queensland & Tour to the Whitsundays

Enjoy breakfast this morning before being personally met at your hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from your hotel to the Cairns Railway Station for your journey aboard the Spirit of Queensland to the magnificent Whitsundays.

Travel south along Queenland’s coast to the Whitsundays in your comfortable Premium Economy seat. Enjoy personal entertainment systems featuring on-demand music and movies, choose from a variety of hot & cold dining options in the Club Car and relax as you make your way to Prosperpine.

On arrival in Proserpine, you will be transferred to Airlie Beach where you will spend the next 6 days.

Day 7 Outer Great Barrier Reef Cruise

Board your high speed catamaran at Airlie Beach this morning and cruise past the magnificent Whitsunday Islands towards the Outer Great Barrier Reef. Your vessel features spacious air-conditioned lounges, large outdoor viewing decks as well as bars offering refreshments and comfortable seating. You may even spot whales on your journey to the Great Barrier Reef during the months of July to September!

Once at the reef, disembark the vessel and board the state of the art interactive pontoon which offers a multitude of facilities and included experiences. You may choose to go snorkelling straight off the pontoon, enjoy presentations by on board reef experts, or if you do not wish to get in the water, you can enjoy viewing the Reef from the semi - submersible underwater viewing chamber. For something more relaxed, you can choose to top up your tan on the Sun Deck.

There are also a host of optional activities that you can take part in such as SCUBA diving, helicopter flights over the Reef, guided snorkelling tours or even a massage!

All these activities are sure to make you hungry. Enjoy included morning and afternoon teas as well a sumptuous buffet lunch featuring local seasonal produce. Day 8 Proserpine, Eco Crocodile Safari & River Cruise

The Proserpine River wetland eco environment sustains a massive array of native wildlife including saltwater crocodiles, wallabies, birds, insects, mangroves ecosystem and a melaleuca forest. See Proserpine township. Cruise down the calm river waters onboard this all-weather vessel, seeing the prolific wildlife residents of the mangrove habitat, including crocodile spotting and mud crab capture. Enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch at the safari campsite. Board an open-air, tractor-drawn wagon-train travelling through wetlands, seasonal waterholes and a melaleuca forest. Billy tea and damper, cooked on site, will finish off this incredible eco tour.

Today we leave Airlie Beach on-board a coach tour passing the magnificent azure waters of the Whitsunday Passage to Proserpine township and to the estuarine waters of the Proserpine River system. Experience an educational eco cruise on the Proserpine River while seated in complete safety and comfort, see wild saltwater crocodiles as you cruise (estuarine or saltwater crocodiles are the most dangerous, around 150 "salties" inhabit this area), be fascinated by some of the characters you meet and their unique behaviours and investigate the marine mangrove ecosystem. Our guides catch the famous Queensland mud crab and provide an entertaining insight into their features and fascinating life-cycle, before releasing the crabs back into Proserpine River. Learn about the history of damper and billy-tea as our guides prepare them fresh for morning tea. Discover the secrets of the recipes and just how good they taste as you sample some traditional "bush tucker". See the land as Captain Cook saw it on the open-air tractor-drawn wagon-train through Goorganga wetlands. Marvel at the many species of flora and fauna and experience unique Australian habitats including melaleuca forests, pastures, marine mangroves and saltpans which fringe the Proserpine River. Your delicious BBQ and seafood lunch is freshly prepared onsite while you relax in comfort at the covered and well equipped campsite. Day 9 Hamilton Island & Whitehaven Beach

Hamilton Island is a famous playground of the wealthy. It's a sliver of luxurious paradise, with its beautiful beaches, endless blue skies, azure ocean, yacht marina and world-class facilities. It is a destination par excellence. The island caters for many tastes with its regular food and wine festivals, luxurious spa treatments, sailing regattas and whale watching expeditions. Day 10 Explore Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is picture-postcard-perfect with its backdrop of gently sloping verdant hills and waterfront setting. Airlie Beach is the tourism hub of the Whitsundays region. Time will fly as you stroll up and down the main street and explore the Esplanade. Day 14 Tangalooma Dolphins

Day 15 Australian Zoo & Sunshine Coast

CRIKEY! Australia Zoo is home to The ‘Crocodile Hunter’ and is one of the best wildlife conservation facilities in the world. Made famous by Steve, Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin in their global documentaries, the sheer amount and variety of mammals, reptiles, birds and attractions here is mind-blowing. Throw out your old ideas about the ultimate zoo experience, here you will be invited to get up close and personal, hand-feed and maybe cuddle the wildlife. The five-thousand capacity Animal Planet Crocoseum hosts various crocodile, snake and bird shows, whilst the African Safari exhibit replicates the Serengeti complete with zebras, rhinos and giraffes.

Today you will experience the thrilling and action packed wildlife shows and meet many of the 1200 animals across the 100 acres of the world famous Australia Zoo. You'll experience wildlife like nowhere else. Roving animal teams walk around the grounds throughout the day with various animals such as alligators, birds, snakes, and lizards so you can meet them and have your photo taken with them. There are 4 walk-through enclosures where you can enter and hand feed the animals. View crocodile feedings and participate in elephant feedings.
