DAY 1 Adelaide - Barossa Valley

Take the Princess Highway northbound from Adelaide today to Gawler Historic Town, then eastbound on to the bucolic countryside and indulgent pleasures of the vine clad hills and dales, orchards and historic country towns, of the Barossa Valley wine region, first settled by German immigrants who thoughtfully brought with them the culinary delights and vintners skills of the 'old country', to delight us....

Gawler (earliest town in South Australia [1839], heritage architecture, Church Hill State Heritage Tour, South and North Para Rivers, art and craft galleries, organic food products, Gawler Clock Tower), Sandy Creek, Lyndoch (township settled by Lutherans in picturesque, undulating hills, vineyards since early 1800's, Jacob's Creek producing wines at Lyndoch since 1850's, scenic heli rides, balloon rides, self guided walks, picnic areas, Barossa Goldfields Trail walk, welcoming cellar doors, lavender farm, Williamstown ( 8km south west the Whispering Wall at Barossa Reservoir - Engineering masterpiece, words whispered quietly against one side of the retaining wall are clearly heard 130 m away on the other side of the retaining wall), Rowland Flat (wine trails), Lyndoch Lavender Farm. DAY 3 Discover McLaren Vale

Wander the McLaren Vale - the "vale of plenty" - with a country town feel and where the famous Shiraz vineyards of the McLaren Vale Wine Region marry with gourmet produce farms and orchards growing olives, almonds, avocados and stone fruits for the delight of the gourmand and the wannabe. Visit the welcoming cellar doors of famed wineries such as Hardys Tintara and Rosemount Estate and Coriole, D'Arenberg, Geoff Merrill Wines - check out Medlow Confectionary and FruChocs Showcase, McLaren Vale Olive Grove for local McLaren Vale produce. With some 60 welcoming cellar doors and many with fine dining restaurants or cafes happy to serve a local cheese platter, the McLaren Vale is ideal for learning to distinguish the structure, elegance, and complexity of wines in an atmosphere to suit the occasion.
