Day 1 Fly to Darwin

When you arrive into Darwin you can sense the cosmopolitan and thriving atmosphere of this historic tropical North Australian city. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Darwin.

Day 2 Darwin Tour, Sunset Cruise & Special Dinner

Your tour today includes: see Smith Street Mall, Mitchell Street (restaurants and cafes), St Mary's Cathedral, Cavanagh Street (old China Town), Chinese Temple, Stokes Hill, Fort Hill Wharf, Trendy Darwin Wharf precinct on the harbor, World War II oil storage tunnel, Christ Church Cathedral, Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, Government House, Parliament House, Bicentennial Park, The Esplanade, Casino Mindil Beach (Darwin's famous market is located here). Day 3 Kakadu National Park

This morning skirt Francis Bay on Darwin Harbour, head out on Tiger Brennan Drive and see Berrimah Naval Defence base, Darwin suburb of Palmerston, spot for massive road-trains, head east on the Arnhem Highway, pass through Humpty Doo, cross the Marrakai Wetlands and Adelaide River. See the top end outback bush, eucalypts, palms and termite mounds. At Kakadu National Park on the South Alligator River, take a short guided walk to Nourlangie Rock to see ancient Aboriginal rock art (optional but included in the price), enjoy a tropical buffet lunch (cold meats, salad and fruit), take a 1.5 hour guided cruise on Yellow Water Billabong, spotting for crocodiles, brolgas, magpie geese and kites. Take in the serenity and beauty that nature gifts in the Kakadu wetlands and visit Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to learn the stories and traditional ways of the beautiful Aboriginal people of Kakadu. 

Head back into Darwin after a full day of discovery and wonderful experiences to treasure. If you choose to join the guided walks, don't forget your hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, sturdy walking shoes and bottled water. The memories of Kakadu last a lifetime.

Day 4 Jumping Crocodiles

Today you will cruise the Adelaide River in crocodile infested waters, watch as your guide entices wild saltwater crocodiles to jump and snatch their food (witnessing crocodiles in a relatively close situation), visit Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre (educational display with sweeping views over the wetlands, plus see birds of prey scavenge for leftovers), see Fogg Dam Nature Reserve (Top End wetlands eco system with an abundance of birds and reptiles). Today is an amazing adventure.

Day 5 Katherine Gorge

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the onboard full commentary throughout the day. Head south from Darwin on the Stuart Highway, see endless outback scrub and World War II airstrips. Take a break at Adelaide River, visit Adelaide River War Cemetery (with memorial of the Darwin air raids in the 1940's), spot for wallabies, travel the western side of Nitmiluk National Park to the spectacular Edith Falls (perhaps take a swim in the waterhole below the falls or relax on the grassy banks). Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Take a two hour guided tour and scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge (look for freshwater crocodiles on the banks) - marvelling at the stark, sheer, richly coloured escarpments of the Katherine Gorge canyon. Tour through the outback township of Katherine (third largest in the Territory), stop at Adelaide River (perhaps purchase the local delicacy 'Barra and chips'). Arrive back into Darwin with your camera full of wonderful new memories.

ALTERNATIVELY - you could enjoy the Litchfield National Park Luxury Day Tour. Experience magnificent Litchfield, including Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, Tolmer Falls, Buley Rockhole and termite mounds. There is even time for a swim in the tropical pools boarded by river pandanas palms. Simply let us know if you would prefer the Litchfield alternative at the time of booking.

Day 6 Depart Darwin

Today you will be personally met at your hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred to Darwin Wharf to begin your cruise. Board the ship at 08:00AM and depart Darwin at 09:00AM. Cross Cambridge Gulf and join the Expedition Staff for an informative presentation on the Kimberley before meeting your fellow travellers at the Captain’s Welcome Drinks.

Day 7 King George River and Falls

Discover King George River, the first of the Kimberley’s “Big” rivers. Board the specially designed excursion vessel the “Xplorer” to discover the scenic gorges and cruise close to the base of King George Falls. Later explore Tranquil Bay before returning to the vessel.

Day 8 Vansittart Bay DC3 and Jar Island

Walk across the salt flats of Vansittart Bay with your Expedition Leader to see the wreckage of the US Air Force DC3 which crash landed here during World War II. Later, visit Jar Island and learn about the mysterious Bradshaw Paintings (Gwion) from your guest lecturers.

Day 9 Hathaway’s Hideaway and Mitchell Falls

Anchor in Winyalken Bay and travel ashore aboard the Xplorer to discover Hathaway’s Hideaway, a maze of sandstone caves. Take an optional helicopter flight over Mitchell Plateau to take in spectacular views of Mitchell Fall. Later enjoy a gourmet Aussie BBQ on the beach while enjoying a spectacular sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Day 11 King Cascades and Careening Bay

Running along a straight fault line, Prince Regent River is a haven for native species. Here we visit beautiful King Cascade, where falling water tumbles down a terrace of Kimberley sandstone, surrounded by grasses and ferns. Later, see the Heritage Listed ‘Mermaid Tree’. It still bears the name carved by the carpenter of HMS Mermaid when the ship was repaired here in 1820.

Day 10 Prince Frederick Harbour

Prince Frederick Harbour is one of the Kimberley’s most spectacular locations. The harbour is dotted with islands lined with mangroves and monsoon rainforests, set against a backdrop of ochre-hued escarpments. White-bellied sea eagles and other birds are often seen here, and at low tide mudflats reveal large populations of mud-skippers and mangrove crabs. Cruise up Porosus Creek to spot wildlife and later explore rock art sites.

Day 12 Montgomery Reef and Doubtful Bay

Join the Expedition Staff aboard the Xplorer and experience this natural phenomenon up close. Discover the reef’s diverse marine life including turtles, manta rays, reef sharks and dugongs and later, cruise through the gorgeous Doubtful Bay.

Day 13 Raft Point and Ruby Falls

Cruise through Kuri Bay to the impressive Raft Point and visit a secluded Aboriginal rock art gallery which houses some of the best preserved Wandjina art and Bradshaw Paintings. Later explore Red Cone Creek and maybe take a swim at Ruby Falls.

Day 14 Horizontal Falls and Buccaneer Archipelago

Cruise through the Buccaneer Archipelago to Horizontal Falls, one of the greatest natural wonders in the world. Take a ride aboard the zodiacs through the mighty falls and later explore Silica Beach on Hidden Island and its stunning white sand beaches and crystal blue water.

Day 15 Lacepede Islands

Cruise through Pender Bay and subject to tides visit the Lacepede Islands, one of the most important breeding grounds for Brown Boobies, Roseate Terns and Green Turtles. This evening reflect upon your expedition with your fellow travellers at the Captain’s Farewell Drinks.

Day 16 Arrive in Broome

Disembark the Silver Explorer in Broome and spend the day exploring the town. Broome is the western gateway to the spectacular Kimberley region. This historic pearling town sits on the western edge of the vast and remote Kimberley region and is the largest town in Australia's ruggedly beautiful north west. Broome exudes a laid back ambience and is home to several historic buildings including The Sun Picture Theatre which is the world's oldest operational open-air theatre.

Arrive in Broome at 08:00AM and after breakfast, disembark and spend the day at your own leisure.

Day 17 Broome Town Tour

The perfect introduction to Broome, your half day tour of the township will take you to all of the major attractions and landmarks, including ancient rocky outcrops and the spectacular coastline. Hear about Broome’s heritage and how it shaped the town. Visit Chinatown, the Japanese Cemetery, Gantheaume Point and Cable Beach.

At the end of the tour, enjoy a Pearling Master’s high tea and a Pearl Luggers Tour. Combining the historical and cultural influences of Broome, you’ll enjoy tea, coffee or a glass of sparkling wine on arrival followed by sweet and savoury treats.

Day 18 Willie Creek Pearl Farm

A tour of the Willie Creek Pearl Farm lets you see first hand how these beautiful pearls are produced. Friendly and knowledgeable guides take you through the fascinating process from the seeding of an oyster to the harvesting of the pearls right through to the beautiful final product on display in the showroom.

Enjoy a half day morning tour of a Pearl Farm and then enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your own pace.

Day 19 Cape Leveque

Cape Leveque lies in the far north of Western Australia's vast Kimberley region, this beautiful and remote region is home to a wealth of wonderful wildlife including a multitude of birds, wild turtles and whales in season, the blue waters, white sand beaches and ochre cliffs here give Cape Leveque a paradisiacal tropical island appearance.

Spend the day exploring the Dampier Peninsula and all it has to offer. Learn about the art of pearling and view the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago.

Depart Broome and travel north to explore “Dampier Land” in a Luxury 4WD. Visit the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community and the Beagle Bay Church, home of the pearl shell alter for morning tea. Continue to the Lombadina Aboriginal Community before reaching Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm for lunch. Later travel to the One Arm Point Community to take in views of the Buccaneer Archipelago and witness the spectacular tidal flows of the Kimberley. Visit the Community’s aquaculture hatchery before relaxing on the pristine beaches of Cape Leveque.

Day 20 Broome Sunset Hovercraft

A Roebuck Bay Hovercraft experience offers exciting and unforgettable memories, thrill as you skim over sand bars and tidal flats, marvel at perfectly preserved dinosaur footprints, at low tide walk among the relics of the Dutch Catalina flying boats destroyed by the Japanese in WWII and enjoy sensational views of Broome's glorious coastline.

Enjoy a day of leisure and some free time before experiencing a thrilling Hovercraft flight over Roebuck Bay.

There are many beaches providing access to the tidal flats of the bay, but really there is only one way to venture right out onto the tidal flats, and that is by hovercraft. Gliding along the tidal edge take in the view as Pelicans, Egrets, Osprey and Sea Eagle pass by, whilst marvelling at the dramatic red rich Pindan cliff backdrop as you land on a secluded patch of pristine coastline. As the tide continues to fall you then head off into the Bay, settle down on the sandy sea floor and let your pilots look after you with sparkling wine and hors d’oeuvres as the sun finally sets silhouetting the Broome Peninsula whilst glistening off ripples in the tidal floor.

Day 21 Cable Beach Sunset Camel Ride

Broome is a vibrant and cosmopolitan town with a proud pearling history, the town is blessed with a fantastic climate and an abundance of stunning natural beauty, a visit to the Japanese Cemetery where perished Japanese pearl divers are interred brings home the human cost of Broome's colourful pearling history, other attractions include Cable Beach, Matso's Brewery and bustling Chinatown.

Enjoy a day in Broome at your leisure to explore at your own pace before your spectacular Cable Beach Camel Ride at sunset.
