DAY 1 Fly to Hobart

DAY 3 Port Arthur, Tasman Peninsula, Carnarvon Bay Cruise

Established in the 1830s as a penal colony, Port Arthur is Tasmania's most famous tourist attraction. An open-air museum and World Heritage site, these historic remains set in a beautifully scenic landscape will fascinate and intrigue you. The buildings and remains here offer a remarkable glimpse into Australia's colonial convict past. Surrounded by lush, verdant parkland, dotted with striking English oak trees, the setting is both beautiful and thought provoking. You'll see first-hand the Guard Tower, the Model Prison and the Church, as well as the remnants of the main penitentiary.

Today you will tour through magnificent and dramatic landscapes towards Eastern Tasmania, experience our special comprehensive guided tour of the 200 year old Port Arthur Historic Site and cruise on beautiful Carnarvon Bay. DAY 4 Hobart & Coast Small-Group Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing slow-paced start at your hotel with plenty of time to explore Hobart this morning, before your action-packed fast-boat cruise this afternoon.

With an unsurpassed natural setting, a strong sense of history, daring art, a dynamic food scene and a wealth of natural attractions there is plenty to explore. Perhaps wander through Hobart's historic waterfront featuring the magnificent old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Stroll along the working docks past the floating Brooke Street Pier and Douglas Mawson's Antarctica Hut Museum. Maybe try some fish and chips from a floating fish punt or dine in the finest and freshest of restaurants. Browse the quirky and artisan shops, or simply marvel at the incredible architecture and wander through magnificent gardens.

This afternoon we venture down the Derwent River to explore the spectacular ocean coastline on a luxury small-group cruise (with a maximum of 12 people). Discover the renowned waterways that influence Hobart's lifestyle. Visit Australia's oldest lighthouse, circumnavigate Betsey Island and uncover the city's rich maritime past.

Cruising down the Derwent River we'll pass historic Battery Point, one of Tasmania's premium residential addresses. We’ll see well-known landmarks like the iconic Wrest Point Casino and the Shot Tower. Further south, we'll truly appreciate the scale of Mount Wellington as it towers over the city. Arrive at the famous Iron Pot lighthouse, and be immersed in the fascinating history as our guide shares stories of Hobart's early settlement. Explore caves & see hundreds of seabirds. Cruising into Storm Bay, we reach Betsey Island. This uninhabited island is home to little penguins and seabirds like the majestic white bellied sea eagle, cormorants and gulls. As we circumnavigate Betsey Island, Hope Beach comes into view. This isolated beach is known for its large breaks and offshore winds. We cruise close into the shore and feel the swell surging straight from the Southern Ocean; these conditions make this a favourite spot with local surfers. As we return to Hobart you’ll feel thoroughly refreshed, with a newfound appreciation for this beautiful harbour city.

Travel aboard a brand-new fast vessel. The spacious enclosed cabin contains comfortable leather seats. Large awning windows and open decks provide a great view and allow you to immerse yourself in the surroundings.

DAY 5 Freycinet & Wineglass Bay

Enjoy a pickup from your Hobart hotel this morning and travel east through the seaside towns of Orford & Swansea before following the coastline north towards Wineglass Bay.

On arrival at the renowned Freycinet National Park we enjoy a steady uphill walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout and take in spectacular panoramic views of the white beaches and azure waters of this famous peninsula. From the lookout, you may choose to either walk back to the start of the walk with your tour guide or spend the rest of your time walking to Wineglass Beach where you may even take a swim in these pristine waters.

If you choose to return with your guide, you will explore more of Freycinet National Park. Visit Honeymoon Bay for a lunch break and walk to Cape Tourville Lighthouse Lookout for spectacular views of the Hazards, Wineglass Bay and nearby offshore rocks known as The Nuggets. Watch for wildlife, sea birds, sea eagles, whales in season, seals and dolphins.

Later, begin your journey back to Hobart and delight in a stop at Devil’s Corner winery – perched high on a hill overlooking Freycinet. The ideal place to perhaps indulge in a glass of wine, fresh seafood platter, woodfired pizza, tea, coffee or artisan gelato to complete this magical day.

You will then be dropped off at your Hobart hotel after a full day of exploring Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay.

DAY 6 Bruny Island

Travel out to Tasmania's wilderness coast at Bruny Island and experience the famous wildlife eco-cruise that takes you literally between the incredible geological features. This comprehensive three hour wilderness cruise is the eco-cruise of a lifetime. Travel on-board a "4WD of the sea" power boat with the power and agility to get right amongst nature to see everything up close but also features the comfort of stability, great seating, an overhead canopy and even on-board toilet. Cruise along Bruny Island's rugged Southern Tasmanian coastline to spot the island's abundant wildlife such as seals, dolphins and whales. Sit at the bottom of Bruny Island's towering sea cliffs, feel the joy of being surrounded by 1000s of seals and watching dolphins surf on the bow wave of the boat.

We start the day by touring from Hobart past Mt Wellington and Mt Nelson as we travel into Tasmania's southern wilderness through Kingston, Margate, Oyster Cove, D'Entrecasteaux Channel to Kettering before driving onto the ferry for the crossing to Bruny Island across Great Bay, where morning tea is waiting for you. This is some of the closest land to Antarctica.

Your full three hour cruise covering 50km begins. Discover a remote and wonderful place as you cruise out of Adventure Bay, around Penguin Island and travel along the spectacular coastline towards The Friars. Learn about the history of Adventure Bay and its role in sheltering the early explorers during their travels. These highly manoeuvrable boats allow the skipper to take you into some of the dramatic deep sea caves scattered along the coastline, and right up close to the towering cliffs and rock formations. Lean back and take in the full height of the 272m Jurassic Dolerite sea cliffs, formed 160 million years ago and among the tallest in the world. Drift up close and witness the awesome 'Breathing Rock', enter deep sea caves, pass through the narrow gap between the sheer cliffs and 'The Monument' and feel the power of nature at the point where the Tasman Sea meets the might of the Southern Ocean. During the cruise you'll soon begin to encounter some of the region's remarkable wildlife: fur seals, dolphins, southern right whales, humpback whales, little penguins, seabird feeding frenzies, diving gannets, terns, petrels, cormorants, sea eagles and albatross. Occasionally there are rare sightings of killer whales and great white sharks. Each boat is equipped with onboard toilet facilities. Water and windproof full length jackets provided (but dress warmly today). Enjoy lunch upon your return to Adventure Bay before your scenic journey back to Hobart, for some well-deserved relaxing time.

DAY 7 Mt Wellington

Experience rainforest then ancient glacial rock formations and sub-alpine flora as your vehicle follows the footsteps of Charles Darwin, climbing the 1270 metres tall Mt Wellington. Only 20 minutes from Hobart CBD, Mt Wellington is home to diverse range of flora and fauna, and is known to have some of the freshest drinking water in the world. From atop Mt Wellington, see beautiful Hobart laid out before you; and beyond, see the panoramic vistas of Bruny Island, the Tasman Peninsula and South Arm.

Step off the coach at the summit, and take in the awe-inspiring vistas of Hobart, Bruny Island and the D'Entrecasteux Channel far below you, followed by a short, guided Exhibition Garden Circuit walk.

Descending the mountain, savour the taste and style of Hobart at the renowned Cascade Brewery site – one of Australia’s oldest operating breweries, established in 1824. Cascade Brewery is set amongst three acres of heritage gardens, camera ready wander through the elegant gardens.

Spend the rest of your afternoon at your leisure – perhaps a visit to the amazing Hobart Botanical Gardens, treating yourself to lunch with a view at one of the many waterfront restaurants or stroll through the city and the historical sites of magnificent Hobart.

DAY 8 Transfer to Launceston

Enjoy a leisurely start to your day this morning. You will be personally met at your Hobart hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred to your Launceston hotel along the beautiful ‘Heritage Highway’. The Heritage Highway traces much of the original route between Launceston and Hobart, built by convict road gangs in the early 1800's. Drive through expansive rolling farmlands and charming rural Georgian villages where Tasmania’s rich and colourful history is so evident, you’ll feel taken back in time. There’s plenty to admire along the journey.

You have the rest of the afternoon to get settled into your Launceston hotel and explore the town at your own pace.

DAY 9 Bay of Fires

Crystal azure blue waters with pristine white beaches and outcrops of orange lichen covered granite rocks make the scenery at the stunning Bay of Fires simply breathtaking.

Tour through the rolling green hills and farmlands around Lilydale and Scottsdale to the temperate rainforest of Weldborough Pass. DAY 10 Tamar River Cruise & Special Lunch

Undertake a journey of splendour, excitement and history as you cruise Launceston's stunning Tamar River, Australia's longest navigable tidal estuary. You'll be mesmerised at the sheer beauty unfolding in front of you, gorgeous vineyards, bountiful orchards, rolling green hills and historic towns. See the wonderful local wildlife in their natural environment, pelicans, sea eagles, swans and seals abound here. As the river meanders its way through the paradisiacal surroundings you'll see the spectacular Cataract Gorge, the majestic sliver of natural beauty right in the heart of Launceston.

Today you will experience a truly memorable 4 hour river cruise along the Tamar River. You'll learn the fascinating history of the river and its surrounds with informative commentary from the skipper as you partake in morning tea, sample delicious local treats like cheese and fruit platters, enjoy local beer and wine tastings and your Special Lunch.

We cruise under the magical Cataract Gorge and through Launceston's riverfront precinct, head north past Tamar Island, historical buildings, churches, hotels and significant homesteads. The Tamar Valley is steeped with romance and studded with bushrangers, explorers and tales of gold diggers. DAY 11 Cradle Mountain

Part of the gorgeous Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Cradle Mountain is a vision of wild and spectacular natural beauty. Pristine glacial lakes, glass-like in appearance, mirror the still reflections of ancient and elegant pines as freshwater streams, ice-cold to the touch meander down the jutting mountains through green valleys cloaked in a luxuriant coating of thick moss. The ancient rainforest and beguiling alpine heathlands are eye-candy at its finest, the mountain's summit is dominated by alpine coral fern and buttongrass, its lower sections are home to wonderful Tasmanian eyebright, mountain rocket and cheshunt pine. You'll marvel at the wonderful wildlife, wombats, Tasmanian devils and pademelons are bountiful, and bird-lovers will love the black currawongs, pink robins and peregrine falcons that make their home here.

Today we travel to Cradle Mountain. Go deep into the Tasmanian forest and experience the grand wilderness of waterfalls, glacial lakes, rainforest, wildlife and unsurpassed beauty. Awaken your senses to the magnificent splendour that is Cradle Mountain. Catch your breath as you first glimpse the craggy outcrop of majestic Cradle Mountain towering above sparkling Dove Lake plateau.

We tour through the lush green pastures south west of Launceston, admire the Great Western Tiers (collection of magnificent mountain bluffs in the northern Tasmanian Central Highlands), see the quaint and historical towns of Carrick, Hagley, Westbury and beautiful Deloraine (the hub between Launceston and Devonport), travel inland past Australian blue gum and pine plantations, we tour Sheffield (over sixty murals depicting the area's rich history and beautiful natural scenery have been painted on walls scattered throughout the town), traverse dense forest and mountainous terrain, we spot for wombats, potaroos and wallabies as we enter Cradle Mountain National Park, stop at Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre (for insights into the Cradle Mountain National Park). Stand in awe as you take in the powerful and majestic Cradle Mountain reigning over the picturesque Dove Lake. We take a short walk around Dove Lake taking in the views of Cradle Mountain and visit Waldheim Chalet (the forest home of Gustav Weindorfer), take a short stroll along the Enchanted Forest and walk viewing pencil pine (lush forest and a spectacular waterfall). On our way back to Launceston we stop at Ashgrove Cheese Farm (famous Tasmanian cheese, learn how cheese is made on the premises, sample the numerous varieties of cheese).
