Your Central Australian adventure starts off today by exploring the modern face of the historic pioneer town of Alice Springs, famous for Afghan cameleers, gold-diggers, flying doctor base, school of the air, The Ghan train, the usually dry Todd River, the Simpson Desert, 'A Town Like Alice', contemporary Aboriginal art (Todd Mall) and the Aboriginal Arrernte people who have lived here for 20,000 years.

Enjoy a morning at your leisure to explore Alice Springs, before setting off on our half day luxury coach tour with great informative commentary from our experienced local guide. Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service (headquarters of the globally respected medical service providing a critical link to remote communities throughout the Northern Territory), Historic Telegraph Station (site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs, established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide), School of the Air (provides education to primary school aged children living on remote properties throughout the Northern Territory since 1951), and Anzac Hill (dedicated as a war memorial to honour those that fallen in Australia’s wars, with magnificent panoramic views over Alice and the surrounding West MacDonnell Ranges).

Uluru is one of the world's most recognisable natural landmarks and is regarded in geology as an "Island Mountain". Stand in awe as it overwhelms your senses with its sheer scale, its changing colours, its incredible texture, its spirit and its wonder. The monolith of Uluru (Ayers Rock) is listed as a World Heritage Site residing in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park which is home to a plethora of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru has great cultural significance for the Anangu Aboriginal people who share their Dreamtime stories.

DAY 4 West MacDonnell Range Luxury Coach Tour

Today explore the iconic West MacDonnell Ranges that form the dramatic ochre red back-drop to Alice Springs, including Simpson’s Gap, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek, Big Hole and Ormiston Gorge. This amazing Central Australian geological feature has many hidden treasures for you to discover.

Travel west on Larapinta Drive, passing the John Flynn Memorial (foot of Mt Gillen), see what remains of the twin ghost gums (famous painting by Albert Namatjira). Stop at Simpsons Gap with its beautiful permanent water hole, admire Standley Chasm (amazing red cleft that glows) whilst enjoying a delicious morning tea and perhaps walk into the spellbinding Chasm (Angkerle Creek bed). Visit the Ochre Pits to admire the vivid colours of the mineral walls – mined for generations by the Arrernte people of the region. Experience Ormiston Gorge and waterhole where we pause to enjoy a delicious ploughman’s picnic lunch, with time to enjoy the refreshing waterhole (perhaps have a well deserved swim). All the time spotting for the amazing wildlife such as eagles, kites and falcons (soaring above the range on warm currents) as well as black footed rock wallabies and desert lizards. We complete our incredible West Macdonnells experience at Ellery Creek Big Hole – one of Central Australia’s most pristine - where we have the chance to enjoy a swim in the summer months.

DAY 5 Heart of the Outback & Ancient Rock Carvings Coach Tour

Immerse yourself in the heart and soul of Central Australia as we embark on our morning adventure along the Old South Road, where the awe-inspiring expanse of the Red Centre stretches out before us. The vast outback landscape, painted in deep reds and golden hues, invites us to lose ourselves in its breathtaking beauty. Listen to tales of the ancient Finke River, the building of the historic telegraph line, and the rich cultural tapestry that has shaped this land for generations.

Our first stop is the sacred Napwerte/Ewaninga Aboriginal Rock Carvings Conservation Reserve, where the land reveals its ancient secrets. As we walk amongst the ancient petroglyphs, carved into stone by the early Arrernte people, feel the deep connection to this land and its timeless history. We then journey to Ooraminna Station Homestead, where the heart of the outback comes alive. This working cattle station immerses us in the charm, grit, and authenticity of outback life. The iconic Litchfield National Park is famous for stunning cascading tropical waterfalls, warm swimming holes, the Tabletop Range sandstone plateau, monsoon tropical rainforests, intriguing magnetic termite mounds and ancient Aboriginal sites of the Wagait people. We skirt Francis Bay on Darwin Harbour and head south out of Darwin on the Stuart Highway to Litchfield National Park. Travel inland to cruise a section of the Adelaide River and witness saltwater crocodiles close up as they rise up out of the water to snatch their food. The Adelaide River starts in Litchfield National Park and is well known for its thriving high concentration of saltwater crocodiles, along with other wildlife including white-bellied sea eagles, whistling kites, freshwater crocodiles, bull sharks and the black flying-fox. An excellent opportunity to observe these primeval creatures as you cruise along the Adelaide River.

Today you will cruise the Adelaide River in crocodile infested waters, watch as your guide entices massive wild saltwater crocodiles to jump and snatch their food (witnessing crocodiles up close). Experience the ultimate thrill as these magnificent creatures slither up out of the water with sheer power and grace - creating a profound sense of excitement and awe that will stay with you forever.
