East Perth Attractions
The 1899-built Perth Mint is a great example of Perths gold boom architecture. Australias oldest operating mint showcases the worlds largest collection of natural gold, including an 11.5kg nugget affectionately named the Golden Beauty. Also located in East Perth, the WACA cricket oval is the home of Western Australias cricket team and features an intriguing cricket museum. Adjacent to the WACA, the Gloucester Park harness racing course provides an exciting night out. The English-style Queens Gardens is the perfect place to relax. The tranquil garden setting even boasts an adorable replica of the famous Peter Pan statue in Londons Kensington Gardens.
East Perth - Near by
The central locality of East Perth means that it is within close proximity to many inner city delights. With the Swan Valley Wineries some 25 minutes drive away and historic Tranby House, one of the oldest surviving buildings from the Swan River settlement days en-route to the wineries from East Perth. Western Australias only licensed casino is a hop away, across the Swan River; and the Perth city centre is just a short stroll away for great shopping, dining and entertainment.
East Perth History
East Perth is the location of Perth's early colonial era cemetery, with some 800 of the estimated 10,000 grave sites having been identified now; East Perth was the site of a quarry, mined to built the original settlement, and nowadays a beautiful inner city park with the quarry turned into a very large lily pond. The East Perth area was expanded as Perth grew, becoming known for its warehouses and light industry, as it was conveniently close to the rail yards and the Perth Central Business District.

The old East Perth railway yard and engine sheds were removed in the 1960s and redeveloped into the railway headquarters. Today East Perth is the main centre for country and interstate rail services. Located in the City of Perth, East Perth has a population of 5,753 souls.
