Beagle Bay Community
French Palatine monks established an Aboriginal mission near Beagle Bay, north of Broome, in 1890.A pretty church still remains; a building constructed by the monks using hand-made bricks.
The altar inside is beautifully decorated with mother-of-pearl and other shells from local waters.
Day visitors are welcome but permission is required to enter the lands around Beagle Bay.
The Dampier Peninsula is home to the people of the Jawi, Bardi, Nyulnyul, Jabirrjabirr, Nimanburru and Ngumbarl language groups.
