Day 1 Darwin

Enjoy an afternoon tour of the tropical capital city of Darwin, which includes a visit to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

Extensively rebuilt twice- after bombings in Word War II and devastating Cyclone Tracy in 1974; Darwin is now a modern and vibrant city with a multicultural population.

Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions.

Day 2 Darwin to Katherine

Visit the Adelaide River War Cemetery en route to Katherine. The only war cemetery on Australian soil, this moving site commemorates the sacrifices of civilians and military personnel who were killed during the bombing raids on Darwin during WW2.

See the spectacular colours and changing light of Katherine Gorge on an afternoon cruise. Try to spot freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river, and the huge variety of tropical birds that live in this beautiful habitat.

Day 3 Katherine to Kununurra

Travel through Timber Creek and Victoria River and across vast cattle stations en route to Kununurra. Stop for a visit at the historic homestead of the legendary Durack family, where Mary Durack wrote the Australian classic 'Kings in Grass Castles'.

Enjoy a cruise on the mighty Ord River from Lake Argyle (the largest man-made lake in Australia) to Kununurra.This permanent water supply has formed wetland areas, which have become havens for myriads of birds and a variety of marsupials that inhabit the islands in the lake.

Day 4 Kununurra

Explore the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, which has supplied the Top End with water and power since the 60s, then visit the beautiful Hidden Valley National Park.

Savour the panoramic views of the Kununurra landscape from Kellys Knob Lookout just outside of the town, and see if you can spot the distinctive Sleeping Buddha rock formation in the distance.

Learn all about sandalwood industry from soil to oil when we visit the Sandalwood Factory at Mount Romance.

You are invited tonight by the Dessert family to the Hoochery Rum Distillery for an exclusive gourmet barbecue. Youll taste the rum and learn about the distillery and the local way of life.

Day 5 Kununurra to Wyndham

Visit Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve- a haven for the huge variety of bird species that flock here from around the world. During the wet season, the native Brolgas perform the beautiful dance of their mating ritual here.

Visit the 5 Rivers Lookout, so named because the Ord, Forrest, King, Durack and Pentecost Rivers can all be seen as they merge with the Cambridge Gulf.

See statues depicting Aboriginal culture, and ancient rock art at Warriu Dreamtime Park before continuing to El Questro Wilderness Park on the famous Gibb River Road.

Day 6 Wyndham to El Questro

Continue on to El Questro Wilderness Park. Covering an area of land approximately twice the size of the UK, this gargantuan park features tidal flats, rainforests, deep gorges and waterfalls.

Enjoy a leisurely cruise through the beautiful Chamberlain Gorge. At Emma Gorge Resort there is time to sit by the pool or to hike into Emma Gorge for a refreshing swim.

Day 7 El Questro to Halls Creek

Enjoy a fascinating tour of the Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine. The largest diamond mine in the world, it produces 90-95% of the worlds supply of coveted pink diamonds.

Continue to Halls Creek. A 28-ounce gold nugget found here by Charlie Hall in 1885 led to the first gold rush in Western Australia, and the town is still the hub of a huge cattle industry.

Day 8 Halls Creek to Fitzroy Crossing

Travel to the outback town of Fitzroy Crossing, then enjoy a cruise through beautiful Geikie Gorge. Look out for freshwater crocodiles as well as 350 million-year-old fossils embedded in the gorge walls.

This spectacular gorge has been formed over millions of years by the waters of the Fitzroy River tunnelling through the Napier Range.

Day 9 Fitzroy Crossing to Broome

Visit the infamous Boab Prison tree, which was once used as an overnight holding cell for criminals. This naturally hollow tree boasts a perimeter of 14 metres and is estimated to be 1500 years old.

Visit the pioneer town of Derby, before pressing on to the iconic beachside town of Broome.

Day 10 Broome Free Time

Explore Broome at your leisure; relaxing on one of the many glorious beaches, investigating fossilised dinosaur footprints at Gantheume Point, or experiencing an unforgettable sunset camel ride along Cable Beach.

Broome cultured South Sea Pearls are regarded as the finest and rarest cultured pearl in the world. Browse the historic Pearl Luggers exhibition of Chinatown, and perhaps take home a piece of stunning jewellery as a memento of your visit.

Day 11 Broome to Karratha

Watch the beautiful landscape unfold as you traverse the perimeter of the Great Sandy Desert and arrive in Port Hedland - the highest tonnage port in Australia.

Continue to Karratha, a bustling mining town near the beautiful islands of the Dampier Archipelago and the headquarters of the North West Shelf Project.

Day 12 Karratha to Karijini

Travel to Karijini National Park. The fiery red Pilbara landscape abruptly gives way to mighty gorges, oasis-like swimming holes and lush vegetation, and huge termite mounds stand alongside skeleton-like gum trees in this spectacular National Park.

The Karijini Visitors Centre offers a wealth of knowledge about the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land, their Dreamtime stories and relationship to this amazing place.

Day 13 Karijini to Tom Price

Continue to explore Karijini National Park in the mellow morning light. The spectacular gorges, waterfalls and rock pools provide a contrast to the red Pilbara landscape. Journey on to Tom Price.

A guided tour of the Open Cut Iron Ore Mine will give you an interesting insight into the huge mining industry which drives much of the Western Australian economy.

Day 14 Tom Price to Exmouth

Visit Giralia Station, a former sheep station that in 2002 was declared a National Park. It draws visitors from all over the globe for its amazing bird life, great fishing and ancient fossils, which may be of dinosaur origin.

Continue to the coastal town of Exmouth, a former World War II military base, which is now a popular holiday destination and playground to both humpback whales, and whalesharks.

Nestled in between Cape Range National Park and the Ningaloo Reef, Exmouth is a delightful overnight stop.

Day 15 Ningaloo Reef to Carnarvon

Arrive in Coral Bay, and enjoy a cruise on the spectacular Ningaloo Reef- the largest coral reef in Western Australia, and home to regular congregations of the elusive Whalesharks.

Generations of fish have grown to be fat and happy in the protected waters of the fishing sanctuary zone surrounding Coral Bay, and schools of curious snapper are known to startle tourists as they investigate snorkel masks and bright swimming costumes.

Continue to Carnarvon, over the fascinating Fortescue River which flows beneath the dry river bed for most of the year. Carnarvon is the fruit bowl of the west.
