Revel on the tranquil Cable Beach where you have 22 kilometres of pristine sand to stroll along and turquoise blue water to swim in.

Wander through Chinatown, the original bustling centre of Broome and explore the pearl showrooms and galleries. Observe the original corrugated iron huts from the late 1800s, built when the worlds biggest shell pearl was discovered in Chinatown.

Relax in the evening by sitting back and watching a spectacular sunset over the Indian Ocean from the Cable Beach Club Resort.

Alternatively, you may like to enjoy the quintessential Broome experience of taking a camel ride along Cable Beach as you watch the sunset over the tranquil waters.

Day 3 Broome to Fitzroy Crossing

Encounter Derby, the oldest established town in the Kimberley, which is located on the tidal mud flats on the edge of King Sound. Look out on King Sound where the highest tides in Australia of around 11 metres high occur in March and April each year.

Experience the famous Prison Boab Tree just out of Derby, just beyond the Gibb River Road turn off. Observe the hollow trunk where the local police kept Aboriginal prisoners overnight in the 1890s before their sentencing in Derby. Discover some of Australias biggest pastoral properties as you travel towards the remote township of Fitzroy Crossing. Fitzroy Crossing is set along the Great Northern Highway where the Highway crosses the Fitzroy River.

Overnight: Fitzroy River Lodge, Fitzroy Crossing

B

Day 4 Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek

Cruise through Geikie Gorge which was formed by the waters of the Fitzroy River tunnelling through the Napier Range. During the wet season, the Fitzroy River rises over 16 metres, staining the limestone walls of the gorge and flooding the national park.

In the dry season, the river transforms itself into a quiet stream strung beneath the towering cliffs of the Devonian Reef. Watch for freshwater crocodiles, fruit bats and wallabies as the 30 metre high walls of the gorge tower above you.

Travel to Halls Creek, situated on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, at the doorstep to the majestic World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park. This afternoon you will have the opportunity to meet and talk with some local indigenous artists.

Overnight: Kimberley Hotel, Halls Creek

B L D

Day 5 Halls Creek to El Questro Wilderness Park

Journey north of Halls Creek and enter the Argyle mining lease. A local guide will join you and conduct a tour of Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine, the world's largest diamond mine, which produces one quarter of the world's diamonds annually.

This afternoon travel to El Questro Wilderness Park, a million acres in the heart of the Kimberley, one of the world's few remaining wild frontiers.

Overnight: Emma Gorge Resort, tented cabins with private facilities

B L D

Day 6 El Questro Wilderness Park

Experience a morning cruise through Chamberlain Gorge which can only be accessed by boat and witness the three kilometre fresh waterhole fringed by tropical vegetation and 60 metre tall escarpments.

Watch for photo opportunities of fresh water crocodiles sunning themselves as you glide past.

Relax at Emma Gorge Resort where there is time to sit by the pool or to hike into Emma Gorge for a refreshing swim in the waterhole. Observe the towering cliffs that drop to a large permanent pool and sixty-five metres droplet waterfall.

Overnight: Emma Gorge Resort, tented cabins with private facilities

B D

Day 7 El Questro Wilderness Park to Kununurra

Travel along the Gibb River Road to Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve, a haven for birdlife in this region.

Discover sensational views over the Cambridge Gulf at the 5 Rivers Lookout in Wyndham. Visit Warriu Park to see the Dreamtime Statues and rock art murals.

Travel in the afternoon to the historic Durack Homestead, which was faithfully removed brick by brick from being flooded by Lake Argyle and reconstructed to be a pioneer museum.

Enjoy a cruise along the Ord River from Lake Argyle to Kununurra. This permanent water supply has formed wetland areas, which have become havens for myriads of birds and a variety of marsupials that inhabit the islands in the lake.

Overnight: Kimberley Grande, Kununurra

B D

Day 8 Kununurra

Experience a tour of Kununurra, one of the youngest towns in Western Australia and a hub for the agriculture, tourism and mining industries in the east Kimberley.

Encounter a portion of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme and observe how the waters from the Ord River are used to irrigate the agriculture of the tropical north.

Travel to Mirima, more commonly known as Hidden Valley National Park, which is often referred to as a mini version of the Bungle Bungle Range. View the rugged cliffs, gullies and ridges that the secluded valley offers with a gentle bushwalk.

Learn all about the sandalwood industry from soil to oil when you visit the Sandalwood Factory at Mount Reserve. Tonight you are invited by the Dessert family to dinner at the Hoochery Rum Distillery. Enjoy a taste of rum and hear about life in the Ord.

Overnight: Kimberley Grande, Kununurra

B D

Day 9 Kununurra to Katherine

Journey along the Victoria Highway and cross the border into the Northern Territory. Witness views of escarpment ranges, unique boab trees and the mighty Victoria River that runs into deep valleys and spectacular gorges.

Overnight: Paraway Motel, Katherine
