Day 3 Tennant Creek to Tanami Desert

Admire the pretty countryside as you drive along the Buchanan Stock Road, past vast cattle stations for which the Kimberley is renowned, en route to Top Springs.

Day 4 Tanami Desert to Halls Creek

Skirt the edge of the Tanami Desert, along the Buntine Highway through cattle country to Halls Creek, on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, and the location of the first gold rush in Western Australia.

A 28-ounce gold nugget found here by Charlie Hall in 1885 led to the first gold rush in Western Australia, and the town is still the hub of a huge cattle industry.

Overnight: Camping in Halls Creek

Day 5 Halls Creek to Geikie Gorge- Fitzroy Crossing

The distinct landscape of the northwest region of the Kimberley becomes obvious today. Journey along the Northern Highway to the town of Fitzroy Crossing.

Enjoy a cruise of Geikie Gorge, and look out for freshwater crocodiles as well as 350 million year old fossils embedded in the gorge walls.

For a touch of local culture, learn of the unique role the sea and river systems of the Kimberley have played in the life of the local indigenous communities on a guided cultural walk and excursion through Minyirr Park.

Roebuck Bay has the greatest diversity of shorebird species of any site on the planet and around 150,000 of these birds visit annually.

Day 8 Broome to Gibb River Road to Windjana Gorge

Travel north to Derby, and see the Boab Prison Tree and Myall Bore, beside which is the longest cattle trough in the southern hemisphere.

Embark upon the famous Gibb River Road, visiting spectacular Windjana Gorge. Continue to the unique Tunnel Creek- a naturally formed underground water passage that flows beneath the limestone of Napier Range.

Western Australias oldest cave system, in Tunnel Creek National Park, is famous as a hideout used late last century by an Aboriginal leader known as Jandamarra. Learn of his heart wrenching story.

Day 10 Manning Gorge to El Questro

Travel through some of the harshest terrain in Australia, skirting the Cockburn Range before arriving at El Questro Wilderness Park.

Covering an area of land greater than Germany, its landscape offers outstanding diversity - from rugged sandstone ranges and broad tidal flats, to rainforest pockets, gorges and permanent waterfalls.

El Questro boasts four major river systems - from fresh water springs to the lazy salt-water estuaries in the northern part of the property. Here youll find an abundance of animals, fish and bird life congregating near rivers and waterholes.

Overnight: Camping in El Questro Wilderness Park

Day 14 Kununurra to Nitmiluk

Cross the border into the Northern Territory, travelling via Timber Creek and Victoria River to the former gold mining town of Katherine. Camp in stunning Nitmiluk National Park, which is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people.
