Situated on the Tasman Peninsula in the South East region of Tasmania, Taranna is some 87kms southwest of Hobart, 10kms north of Port Arthur and 242kms south of Launceston. On the shores of Norfolk Bay, the small peaceful town of Taranna is renowned for its fascinating Tasmanian Devil Park. The world-famous Port Arthur Historic Site, spectacular coastal scenery, great swimming and surfing beaches, and top-notch bushwalking trails in the Tasman National Park are all just a short drive away. In the municipality of the Tasman Council, Taranna and the surrounding area is comprised of 190 souls.
The main attraction within the Taranna Township, the Tasmanian Devil Park offers captivating feeding displays, after dark walks and fascinating bird shows. With a focus on local wildlife rescue and conservation, the Tasmanian Devil Park is also a breeding centre for endangered birds of prey. Also situated in the Taranna town centre, the Federation Chocolate Factory demonstrates how chocolate is hand made and visitors can sample some deliciously unusual flavours.

The number one tourist attraction in Tasmania, the Port Arthur Historic Site is located just under 10 minutes south of Taranna. The penal settlement provides a deep insight into the brutal treatment of re-offending convicts.
Just south of Eaglehawk Neck, intriguing rock formations including the Blowhole, Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen offer spectacular views, both of each stunning natural attraction and surrounding coastal cliffs. Awesome views over Port Arthur are found at the nearby Palmers lookout, and the magnificent Remarkable Cave is situated just to the south of Port Arthur.
National Park Tasman
Adjacent to Taranna, the Tasman National Park boasts some of the best bushwalking opportunities on the Tasman Peninsula. Towering cliffs and rock formations, intriguing underwater kelp forests, rare plant species and abundant wildlife are just some of the delights found within the National Park.
White Beach, situated in the nearby town of Nubeena is perfect for swimming and relaxing, whilst the appropriately named, Roaring Beach is a popular surfing spot.
Originally called Old Norfolk during the height of the Port Arthur penal settlement, Taranna was the terminus for Australias first tramway that began at Long Bay near Port Arthur. Interestingly, the human horse powered tram consisted of a number of convicts pushing the carriages uphill then jumping on for the ride down.
