Spring Hill Brisbane Queensland Australia
Spring Hill is an inner city suburb, 1km from the Central Business District of Brisbane, Queensland.
Spring Hill - History
The Brisbane Corportion built Brisbane's first in ground public baths at Spring Hill in 1886 at a cost of some 2,526. The Spring Hill Baths overtook the older floating baths in the Brisbane River in popularity and also provided an important hygiene/sanitation facility in Spring Hill: The pool was drained every evening into the Spring Hill drain, and the baths water replenished in a process lasting several hours. This clever system of hygienically flushing the Spring Hill drain was employed for three-quarters of a century. Other works at that time included a second reservoir at Spring Hill and an extensive drainage system in Spring Hollow. The Spring Hill Baths is one of the oldest municipal Swimming Baths still in use.
Spring Hill - Today
Today Spring Hill swings and has the bonus of having the vibrant Brisbane CBD on Spring Hills doorstep being an easy walk to Brunswick Street Mall, Chinatown Mall and Queen Street and the Brisbane Convention Centre at South Bank and many local restaurants, cafes and pubs are situated in Spring Hill.
