Located some 13 km off the coast near Yeppoon, Great Keppel Island can be reached by ferry from Rosslyn Bay Marina at Yeppoon or by air from Rockhampton, Queensland.
Great Keppel Island - Attractions
Great Keppel Island is 14 sq km of scenic beauty where visitors can explore 15 beaches and National Parks; the clear pristine waters offer many water sports; water skiing, charter a boat, fish for game, bottom or reef fish or dive and snorkel in the fabled waters off Queensland. For the more energetic holidaymaker, there are tennis courts, Gym, conference facilities, and a magnificent ocean front swimming pool. Other facilities and activities on Great Keppel Island include walking tracks, windsurfing and sailing in a catamaran and an excellent golf course.
Great Keppel Island - Beaches
The beaches of Great Keppel Island are on a par with many of the island beaches of the Great Barrier Reef. Blessed with 18km of fine, white sandy beaches, and the main beach of Great Keppel Island is Fishermans Beach. There is good snorkeling off Monkey Beach and the walking trail from the southern end of the Great Keppel Island Airstrip takes you to Long Beach, perhaps the best of the island's beaches.
Great Keppel Island - Bush Walks
Some 90 percent of Great Keppel Island remains natural bushland waiting to explore. Several interesting bush-walking tracks lead off from Fisherman's Beach. The longest and perhaps most difficult bush walk, leads to the 2.5m' lighthouse' near Bald Rock Point on the far side of Great Keppel Island. An underwater observatory is located nearby Middle Island, close to Great Keppel Island.
