Mataranka Tourism & Travel

Mataranka Australia
Mataranka is located on the Stuart Highway, 107 km south of Katherine and is renowned for its 34 degrees Celsius thermal pool hot spring.
Mataranka Hot Springs
Feel every muscle in your body relax as you slip into the warm waters of Mataranka thermal pools. The water flows from Rainbow Springs to this idyllic spot surrounded by tropical rainforest.
During the cooler early mornings or late afternoons, wallabies, goannas, monitors and occasional freshwater crocodiles can be seen along the Roper River. Evening is a good time to glimpse a possum or flying fox in the trees.
There are delightful walking tracks through pockets of rainforest, barramundi fishing and canoeing.
Jeannie Gunns Homestead
The nearby Mataranka Homestead is a replica of Jeannie Gunns Elsey Station homestead. Jeannie Gunn was a pioneer who wrote a novel, We of the Never Never, about her life on Elsey Station at the turn of the century. Her book was made into a film in 1981 and the replica homestead built for the film where people are now able to stay and soak up the atmosphere.
