Vacy Hunter Valley New South Wales Australia
Vacy is a tiny town on the Paterson River, 27 km north of Maitland. The town consists of only a few residents, St Johns Church, the Vacy Public School, the Vacy Village Motel, the Eaglereach Wilderness Resort and Restaurant and a few basic shops.
Vacy was a private township established by the Cory family in 1828. John Cory Sr came out from England with his sons in 1823 and they soon received land grants in the area. By 1839 both grants were in the hands of another son, Gilbert, who arrived later and became the town's real patriarch. It remained in the family until the land was subdivided and sold in 1927.
Vacy by the 1870s, was an active town with cattle sale yards and a steady flow of livestock through the main street. Tobacco and arrowroot were also grown here.
