Rosehill Sydney New South Wales Australia

Situated 23kms west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Rosehill is a charming historic suburb in the Outer West region. Boasting close proximity to the major historic hub of Parramatta, Rosehill is a great base to explore both the Sydney CBD and the intriguing outer Sydney suburbs.

Rosehill Attractions

The significant historical attraction of Elizabeth Farm is situated in Rosehill. The historic farm is now a museum offering an insight into the life of Elizabeth Macarthur, wife of John Macarthur, who is recognised as the father of the Australian wool industry, having introduced the Merino sheep strain into Australia; Australia was subsequently to grow on the back of the Merino sheep. Rosehill also houses one of Sydneys premier racecourses, Rosehill Gardens Racecourse featuring thoroughbred horse racing.

Rosehill - Near by

The popular Featherdale Wildlife Park in nearby Doonside allows visitors to get up close and personal with Australian wildlife. The restored Hambledon Cottage in Harris Park is worth a look, reflecting the early reign of Queen Victoria. The historic suburb of Parramatta is the perfect destination to explore on a day trip from Rosehill. Many historic buildings and sites grace the streets of this major hub.

Rosehill History

Rosehill was named by Governor Arthur Phillip during the early days of the colony. In 1883, 850 acres of Elizabeth Farm were subdivided for industrial purposes. Part of the estate became the Rosehill Racecourse. Shortly after, a public school was opened and in 1988, a railway station was established.
