A suburb in the capital city of Sydney, Pyrmont is situated only 2kms southwest of the CBD. Prior to European settlement, the Eora tribe of Indigenous Australians inhabited the area. They named the area Pirrama which is currently the name of a road in Pyrmont. Originally a working class industrial and port community, Pyrmont was considered to be a slum area in the 19th century. Today, almost all industrial function has been replaced by high-rise residential developments.
Pyrmont is currently home to the headquarters of several large corporations including Vodafone, Nokia Australia, Google, the Network Ten studios, the Seven Network production studios and the radio stations of Nova 96.9, Vega 95.3 2GB and 2SM.
