DAY 1 Fly to Launceston & Tour to Cradle Mountain

Fly to Launceston to begin your Tasmanian wilderness adventure and tour to World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park, located in the North West of the island state. Immerse yourself in the expansive alpine region of Cradle. Walk around the deep alpine lakes suspended beneath rugged mountain peaks.

You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel.

Enjoy an introduction to this fascinating region before settling into your accommodation for the night.

DAY 2 Cradle Mountain & Dove Lake

Today, we venture deep into Cradle Mountain National Park to visit the idyllic Dove Lake. Learn about the many species of endemic flora and fauna of the region from your expert guide while taking in the breathtaking views of Cradle Mountain.

Visit Dove Lake, one of Tasmania’s premier nature walks and best known attractions that draws visitors from all over the world with its mirror-like waters reflecting the twin peaks of Cradle Mountain. An iconic boatshed built in the 1940’s sits on the shores, features in almost all published images of the lake.

We are taken on a guided tour of Marakoopa Caves, a magnificent cave system with flowing underground streams, large caverns and glow worms.

DAY 3 Cradle Mountain to Central Highlands

We leave Cradle Mountain and travel to the central highlands and the region known as the Land of a Thousand Lakes and the Thousand Lakes Wilderness Lodge. This is truly getting back to nature, set amongst World Heritage Listed wilderness, the air is noticeably clear and the silence inspiring.

The protected region is home to an abundance of wildlife and we will have the opportunity to see how many we can spot on guided wildlife tour, maybe we will have the chance to observe Wombats, Wallabies and Possums as they turn the area into a hub of activity. With a bit of luck we may also see Quolls and Tasmanian Devils in their natural habitat.

DAY 4 Central Highlands to Tasmania’s East Coast (Bicheno)

Today, we make our way east, leaving the Central Plateau towards our next stop, Bicheno, a seaside holiday destination surrounded by clear blue east coast water and home to a colony of fairy penguins. Today, as the sun goes down, we are treated to front row seats, to see these cute little locals emerge from the sea to their burrows in the dunes.

DAY 5 Explore Freycinet National Park & Wineglass Bay

Following the coast south, our journey continues to the beautiful Freycinet National Park, famous for its azure waters, white sandy beaches and the Pink Granite mountains that serve as its backdrop. The postcard perfect, pristine wilderness is ours to explore. Take an interpreted walk to the world famous Wineglass Bay lookout and be rewarded with stunning photo opportunities. Take a moment to appreciate the serenity and unsurpassed beauty of Tasmania’s most photographed location.

Today we embark on an unforgettable cruise of Wineglass Bay. Experience the beauty and tranquility as you cruise through some of the most amazing waters in the world. Be sure to have your cameras ready, this is truly an experience to remember.

This evening, a nocturnal experience like no other. See the iconic Tassie Devil in their natural habitat and in the Dark. Watch these nocturnal animals when they are most active.

DAY 6 Maria Island

Accessible only by sea, Maria Island is a natural wildlife sanctuary located off the east coast of Tasmania. The island contains the most intact example of a convict probation station in Australia and is also one of Tasmania’s great bird watching spots. In fact, 11 out of the state’s 12 endemic species can be seen here.

After breakfast, board the ferry and cross the Mercury Passage to Maria Island. Enjoy a relaxing day of exploring the islands historic ruins, sweeping bays, rugged cliffs and imposing mountains. You can also spot for the island’s native birdlife, wildlife and resident kangaroos and wombats.

Later, continue touring to Hobart, the state’s capital for the night.

DAY 7 Mt Field National Park and Bonorong Wildlife Park

Visit Mt Field, Tasmania’s oldest National Park and home to the spectacular three tiered waterfall, Russell Falls. Enjoy a rainforest walk and a beautiful circuit via Horseshoe Falls and the Tall Trees. Mt Field National Park has some of the tallest trees in the world and they are truly majestic.

Tour to Bonorong Wildlife Park today to encounter native Tasmanian wildlife such as Tasmanian Devils, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and quolls first hand.

DAY 8 Hobart & Coast Small-Group Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing slow-paced start at your hotel with plenty of time to explore Hobart this morning, before your action-packed fast-boat cruise this afternoon.

With an unsurpassed natural setting, a strong sense of history, daring art, a dynamic food scene and a wealth of natural attractions there is plenty to explore. Perhaps wander through Hobart's historic waterfront featuring the magnificent old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Stroll along the working docks past the floating Brooke Street Pier and Douglas Mawson's Antarctica Hut Museum. Maybe try some fish and chips from a floating fish punt or dine in the finest and freshest of restaurants. Browse the quirky and artisan shops, or simply marvel at the incredible architecture and wander through magnificent gardens.

This afternoon we venture down the Derwent River to explore the spectacular ocean coastline on a luxury small-group cruise (with a maximum of 12 people). Discover the renowned waterways that influence Hobart's lifestyle. Visit Australia's oldest lighthouse, circumnavigate Betsey Island and uncover the city's rich maritime past.

Cruising down the Derwent River we'll pass historic Battery Point, one of Tasmania's premium residential addresses. We’ll see well-known landmarks like the iconic Wrest Point Casino and the Shot Tower. Further south, we'll truly appreciate the scale of Mount Wellington as it towers over the city. Arrive at the famous Iron Pot lighthouse, and be immersed in the fascinating history as our guide shares stories of Hobart's early settlement. Explore caves & see hundreds of seabirds. Cruising into Storm Bay, we reach Betsey Island. This uninhabited island is home to little penguins and seabirds like the majestic white bellied sea eagle, cormorants and gulls. As we circumnavigate Betsey Island, Hope Beach comes into view. This isolated beach is known for its large breaks and offshore winds. We cruise close in to the shore and feel the swell surging straight from the Southern Ocean; these conditions make this a favourite spot with local surfers. As we return to Hobart you’ll feel thoroughly refreshed, with a newfound appreciation for this beautiful harbour city.
