Wildflower Season

The best time to visit Western Australia is undoubtedly during wildflower season, where the landscape erupts into magnificent colour.

This dedicated and immersive wildflower tour will take you deep into the the very best areas in North Western Australia to experience the remarkable wildflower phenomenon and the see the breathtaking scenery along the way. There are more than 15,000 species of wildflowers throughout WA - many only found here - such as clusters of splendid rare orchids, prolific inland carpets of everlastings as far as the eye can see to colourful roadside kangaroo paws.

With a maximum of 6 people, this is a truly personalised overnight touring experience on our small luxury 4WD vehicle.

Day 1 Fly to Perth

Feel the great expansive openness of the West Coast with its big blue skies and its ever developing but still youthful capital city of Perth. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Perth.

DAY 2 Perth & Fremantle Luxury Coach Tour

The beautiful city of Perth is fringed by the Indian Ocean and the Swan River. It has spectacular beaches, a friendly welcoming ambience and a laid back lifestyle dominated by its seemingly perpetual sunny climes. Chic and stylish, Perth effortlessly combines this beach-outdoor lifestyle with its modern, urban big-city feel. You'll marvel at the spectacular cityscapes from beautiful Kings Park, and enjoy the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean at the world-famous Cottesloe beach. Fremantle's historic colonial streets pulsate with the energy of street-performers and buskers, couples walk hand-in-hand through its colourful and lively markets. The lively street cafes and restaurants along its famous 'cappuccino strip' are perfect resting places to indulge in a spot of people watching.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the on-board full commentary throughout the morning. This comprehensive tour includes Perth City, Fremantle, Kings Park Botanical Gardens, Indian Ocean beaches, swanky suburbs and the Swan River.

Today you will see Perth City, the famous WACA (Western Australia cricket ground), impressive Swan Bell Tower, Perth Town Hall, St Georges Terrace (hub of Australia's minerals and energy industries), Barrack Street Jetty, Perth Mint (working gold mint, stunning sandstone colonial architecture), Old Swan Brewery and Royal Perth Yacht Club (once home to the America's Cup). Stop at magnificent Kings Park for spectacular views over Perth skyline, Swan River and Melville Water. Walk through the tree canopies on the Tree Top Walk see the 750-year-old boab tree. See famous Cottesloe Beach and the Indian Ocean sunset coastline. Tour Fremantle (historic large working port docks, rich convict history, glorious alfresco outdoor dining, marinas, charming heritage sandstone buildings, modern ocean racing yachts, colonial terraced houses, museums and galleries). Enjoy some free time in Fremantle to explore the colourful streets for yourself, perhaps enjoy a coffee on South Terrace's Cappucino Strip or indulge in some shopping in the many unique shops or find a bargain at the weekend markets. On our way back to Perth City we see some of Australia's most expensive real-estate at the upmarket Swan River suburbs of Peppermint Grove and Dalkeith. Time this afternoon to explore more of Perth on your own.

Day 3 Explore Perth

Perth is Australia's friendly city, blessed with abundant sunshine and beautiful surrounds, it blends vibrant urban chic with a laid-back outdoor lifestyle, Perths modern skyline is best viewed from stunning Kings Park which offers great views of the city and the meandering Swan River, nearby attractions include the Swan Valley wineries and historic Fremantle.

Today explore Perth at your own pace. Take a stroll around the city or maybe visit Fremantle. The choice is yours.

Day 4 Tour to Cervantes

We begin our wildflower expedition heading north of Perth into the Midland region which is the gateway to other wildflower regions we will be visiting in the north, west and east before turning south into other major hotspots for our Western Australian Natural Heritage to see abundant regional wildflowers.

Today’s highlights seeing masses of eye popping brilliant blue Leschenaultia biloba, orchids, pink Isopogon, visit a farm (Westways Wildflowers at Moora) that has Kwongan heath growing naturally on sections of the farm.

The owners have developed a niche market for flowers that re preserved and exported to a bespoke client in Japan. We explore a 13 kilometre 4WD trail on the farm to see the ever changing flora.

Late this afternoon we visit the Pinnacles for a photographers delight to take photos in the late afternoon light.

Day 5 Tour to Dongara

After an early breakfast today we visit Don and Joy Williams of Hi Vallee Farm at Badgingarra near Mount Lesueur and Eneabba. Don and Joy have run wildflower tours on their very rich and diverse private national park for over 20 years. On their working sheep and grain property we visit pristine native vegetation with four declared rare and 38 priority plant species, wildflowers, birds and fauna.

Don and Joy have a Greening Australia award for saving this valuable heritage and recently won the W.A Wildflower Society award for their efforts in promoting wild flowers in the Lesueur area and Western Australia.

“Hi –Vallee” with some of the most diverse and varied plant species in the world has been described by Dr Stephen Hopper Director of Kew Gardens, as the most valuable native bushland in private ownership.

We have morning tea on the track with Don to show you their amazing and unique remnant Kwongan heathland.

After lunch and many photos and stories of the flora we visit a major hotspot, Lesueur National Park for another treat of flora. This afternoon we follow the coast up to Dongara our overnight stay taking in delightful scenic bays.

Day 6 Tour to Kalbarri

We visit the Kalbarri National Park for spectacular views of the Murchison River Gorges to see The Loop and Nature’s Window a natural rock arch that frames the upstream views and visit Z Bend.

Kalbarri National Park is highly regarded for its extraordinary seasonal flowers which can start in July and continue to flower late October with pops of colour from local Verticordias.

Kalbarri is nestled at the Murchison River mouth and surrounded by stunning coastline, soaring river gorges and protected bays.

Day 7 Tour to Wooleen

Today we will see what most people think of when they think Western Australia Wildflowers, expanses of pink, yellow and white everlasting daisies in the Coalseam Conservation Reserve and along isolated roads. And visit sights of the Iconic Wreath Lechenaultia flowers.

We then track north through pastoral country and see seasonal wildflowers to our overnight stay at Wooleen Station, a remarkable station that has experienced different stewardships and philosophies of grazing sheep and cattle.

Enjoy a Sunset Tour and learn how the Pollock family are now working towards making Wooleen an ecologically sustainable enterprise. The tour finishes with sunset drinks and nibbles on a large granite outcrop.

Day 8 Explore Woolleen Station

Bring your binoculars today we will explore Wooleen Station and see some of the birds that Birds Australia Western Australia has listed and the myriad of wildflowers swathed across the landscape.
Visit Murchison Settlement to see the Murchison Museum Herbarium and Botanical Walk
This evening enjoy the sunset from the homestead verandahs with a glass of wine.

Day 9 Tour to Dalwallinu

Today we will be traveling through diverse landscapes that offer distinct flora zones. From cropping to sheep and cattle farms. The highlight of today is discovering the many varieties of grevillea and hakea, native fox glove and a chance to see rare and endangered regional flora.

Visit Northampton one of the oldest settlements outside Perth. Today it is classified by the National Trust as a Historic Town and Geraldton, the commercial centre for the Mid-West region, exporting Iron Ore, Mineral Sands, Wheat, Barley and Western Australian Rock Lobster.

At Geraldton we visit HMAS Sydney Memorial; the beautifully designed memorial features a silver dome of 645 seagulls to represent the loss of HMAS Sydney sailors.

Enjoy picnic lunch at Ellendale Pool a stunning water hole naturally formed along the picturesque Greenough River .

Touring south through Morawa, Perenjori to Dalwallinu we will make several stops to view flora highlights.

Dalwallinu is famous for having the largest variety of wattles (acacias) found anywhere in the world. Within 100km of Dalwallinu there are 185 varieties. Dalwallinu is known as a "Place of Wheat, Wattles and Wildflowers.

Overnight stay is at the Wheatlands Motel, for those who are interested in evening or early morning walks.

Day 10 Tour to Perth

This morning visit Wongan Hills, The Hills has the largest single area of natural vegetation remaining in the Northern Wheatbelt. Wongan Hills' flora is extremely diverse with more than 250 species of flowering plants.

There are five species of gazette rare flora in the Wongan Hills Nature Reserve, and numerous species of priority flora. We will visit one sight that has the rare Wongan Cactus - Daviesia Euphorbioides, explore the local orchids and take a look around the area.

On the way back into Perth we make stop at New Norcia for you to amazed seeing Spanish tall buildings in the Wheatbelt. New Norcia is home to a community of Benedictine Monks. New Norcia is Australia’s only Monastery town. Join the Tour of Town and visit the Museum and Art Gallery.

Day 11 Fly Home

Today marks the end of your North Western WA Wildflower expedition. You will be personally met at your hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from your hotel to the airport for your flight home.
