DAY 1 Fly to Kununurra

DAY 2 Board True North

This afternoon you will be transferred from your Kununurra hotel to True North at around 3:30pm for the start of your 13 days adventure cruising the waters of the dramatic Kimberley. Your knowledgeable crew welcome you aboard around 5:00pm, with time to enjoy a cocktail with your fellow adventurers before setting off at 6:30pm to King George River. Enjoy dinner served enroute, then settle into your cabin, to familiarise yourself with the vessel, and relax for the evening.

DAY 3 King George Falls and Tranquil Bay

Today we cruise down the magnificent King George River to the Kimberley’s crowning jewel - King George Falls. Western Australia’s highest twin waterfall with a vertical drop of over 80 metres, witness a truly astounding spectacle as water plunges over an ancient sandstone cliff into tidal waters. The Vessel will be anchored at the base of the falls and you can experience trekking, exploring and enjoying all the dramatic scenery surrounding one of the Kimberley’s “Big” rivers. Climb or take the optional helicopter to the top of the falls for a phenomenal view.

Prepare to be transported back in time to a poignant chapter in history as you immerse yourself in the haunting tale of the state-ship bombing during World War II. Learn about the bravery and sacrifices made during those tumultuous days. Afterward, take a gentle stroll at Tranquil Bay, a place where serenity meets natural beauty and let the tranquillity wash over you.

DAY 4 The Drysdale

Today we embark on a thrilling exploration of the majestic Drysdale River, where the excitement of catching one of our favourite fish, the impressive mangrove jack, awaits. The adventure boats will then carry us “up-river” for scones and billy tea – a signature True North experience. As the sun dances on the river's surface, we indulge in some beachcombing, uncovering treasures left behind by the tide.

In the afternoon, prepare for a truly extraordinary experience as the ship's helicopter whisks us away on an optional flight to the remote community of Kalumburu. From the skies, we witness the vastness of the Kimberley's untamed beauty, the landscape unfolding like a masterpiece painted by Mother Nature herself. This morning we awaken to the stunning turquoise waters of Swift Bay. After an early morning breakfast, the 'hunt for the black-lip oyster' beckons. These magnificent treasures are abundant, making the search a joyful journey of discovery. Savour their unique taste direct from the rock, adorned only with a dash of freshly squeezed lemon. The waters here are also bustling with the dance of light game species - with queenfish, giant trevally and mackerel gracing the scene.

Nearby we can discover extraordinary examples of both Wandjina and Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) Indigenous rock art. These intriguing galleries are alive with the echoes of a profound and mysterious past, their enigmatic rock art weaving tales of the rich cultural heritage of the traditional custodians of this glorious land. Prepare to be moved by the legacy of the people who left their mark on these ancient rocks. Step inside these magnificent galleries and bear witness to the juxtaposition of two distinct rock art styles: the slender, elongated figures of the Gwion Gwion style and the round, enigmatic Wandjina style. The river's history comes alive as we take in the same breathtaking views that early explorers once encountered. As the day unfolds, prepare to be enchanted by a visit to an ancient Wandjina art site on Art Island in Prince Frederick Harbour, or take an optional helicopter flight to one of the Kimberley’s highest peaks, where you can witness a glorious sunset over celebrated Prince Frederick Harbour accompanied by cheese and bubbles - a moment of pure bliss.

DAY 9 Hunter River and Jackson Falls

You will wake this morning in the heart of Hunter River. This spectacular river system will captivate your senses with its 30km of breathtaking scenery. Set against an incredibly scenic backdrop of red rock cliffs, rainforest and mangroves, its waterways are rich with fat barramundi and succulent mud crabs and are said to have the highest proportion of saltwater crocodiles in the Kimberley. Bask in the solitude of castaway island beaches as you embark on an expedition boat to indulge in the thrill of an exhilarating hike to the hidden gem of Jackson Falls. Or perhaps take flight on an optional helicopter journey, gaining a whole new perspective of this ancient landscape.

In the afternoon, visit one of the Kimberley’s most historic sites – Phillip Parker King’s boab tree. Here in Careening Bay, Lt. Phillip Parker King sought refuge for his vessel, the HMC Mermaid. Stranded for 17 days, the ship's carpenter etched "HMC Mermaid 1820" into the bottle-shaped trunk of a boab tree near the beach. Two centuries later, the iconic Mermaid Boab Tree is now listed on the National Register of Big Trees and retains the carpenter's inscription.

DAY 10 Prince Regent River and King Cascades

As we reach the spectacular King Cascade, a spring-fed waterfall enveloped in a lush haven of ferns teeming with vibrant wildlife, our vessel will gracefully position itself right under the falls, allowing us to feel the sheer power and wonder of nature up close. Disembark True North in Broome and spend the day exploring the town. Broome is the western gateway to the spectacular Kimberley region. This historic pearling town sits on the western edge of the vast and remote Kimberley region and is the largest town in Australia's ruggedly beautiful northwest. Broome exudes a laid back ambience and is home to several historic buildings including The Sun Picture Theatre which is the world's oldest operational open-air theatre.
