Day 1 Alice Springs - Palm Valley - Alice Springs

Your outback experience kicks off with a day of 4WD fun in the Finke Gorge National Park. Traverse the usually dry bed of the Finke River flanked by the massive red walls of Finke Gorge.

Further along the track the magnificent Amphitheatre provides a stunning opportunity for photography, before finally reaching Palm Valley itself. Walk amongst the rare Red Cabbage Palms, rising up to 30 metres from the sandstone floor.

After a picnic lunch, travel back along the track to the sealed road. This afternoon, visit the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct founded by Lutheran missionaries in 1877.

Explore the restored mission buildings and historic displays and view the gallery featuring several generations of the Hermannsburg Watercolour School. Return to Alice Springs late afternoon before enjoying an outback dining experience this evening.

Day 2 Alice Springs - Kings Canyon

Leave the main roads and the crowds behind, heading west to Wallace Rock Hole Aboriginal Community.

A local guide will take you on a rock art tour encompassing many aspects of modern and traditional life followed by an opportunity to view the gallery and purchase a variety of local art.

The adventure continues on the 4WD track into the Gosse Bluff comet impact crater, a fantastic setting for your picnic lunch. Hear the traditional stories and take in the 360 degree view of the rich red crater walls.

After lunch, return to the dirt road through the wide open spaces and desert ranges of the Mereenie Wilderness Area. Late afternoon sees your arrival at the Kings Canyon Resort.

Day 3 Kings Canyon - Ayers Rock

This morning Kings Canyon offers a choice of activities. Perhaps a stimulating hike around the canyon rim offering panoramic views and intriguing sandstone beehive formations.

  • You may prefer a gentler stroll along the canyon floor with its colourful bird life and relict cycad plants left behind by a wetter climate millions of years past.
  • Enroute to Ayers Rock, soak up the ever-changing scenery of sand dunes, salt lakes and the mesa-like formation of Mt Connor. Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre before touring around the base of this unique formation with your guide.

Learn of Uluru’s cultural and ecological significance as you visit its rock art sites and waterholes. Finish the day in style with a champagne sunset featuring fine Australian foods, quality sparkling wine and of course the magnificent backdrop.

Day 4 Ayers Rock - Alice Springs

Rise early this morning to catch the first rays of light on Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). A chance to escape the crowds and enjoy the peace and quiet as the day dawns.

Explore on foot with your guide, learning the fascinating story of this intriguing formation before returning to the resort for lunch (own expense).

Midday sees your departure for Alice Springs.
