Longreach, population 3750 is 108 kilometres, 67.5 miles west of Barcaldine, both in Iningai country is the largest town in central Queensland and is the centre of one of Queensland's most prosperous wool and beef areas.
Home to the world's first Flying Surgeon in 1959, Longreach still provides specialised medical attention to hospitals in remote communities.

The Qantas Hangar at Longreach Airport was Qantas' first operational base from 1922 to 1934. During World War II, Longreach was used by the U.S. flying fortresses as a base for their operations into the Pacific. The hangar now houses the Qantas Founders Outback Museum.
The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame stands as a national tribute to the people who pioneered and developed Outback Australia. The centre honours explorers, pioneers, stockmen and rough riders and the poets, writers and artists who have helped to record the history and lifestyle of Inland Australia.
