320 km north of Sydney is Taree, population 16 700. Taree serves as the manufacturing and comercial centre of the Manning River District. It is a quiet riverside town that serves as a great base to explore the hills, forests and deserted beaches in the area.

Ellenborough Falls are the second highest single drop falls in the Southern Hemisphere and a very spectacular sight. They are a one-hour drive northwest from Taree on a picturesque forest drive.
Crowdy Bay National Park is a worthy diversion to see prolific birdlife in heath lands, swamp, lagoons, woodlands, forests and sand dunes. Kangaroos abound year round but koalas are harder to spot. This area has some of the areas most popular beaches. October is the best month for wildflowers and there are some pleasant bushwalks to do.
