Chief Constable John Blackman gave his name to Blackmans Swamp, which was what the settlement was called until the name 'Orange' began to appear on official documents, which came from the Prince of Orange who later became King of the Netherlands.
Today Orange is a pretty town full of trees, including some European varieties, evidence of the early settlers. Oranges main industry is apples and also prides itself in its olives, grapes, berries, fine lamb and beef, all grown in the local area and the produce is of the highest quality.
