Fishing, swimming, surfing, boating and scuba diving are all popular activities in the small seaside resort town of Merimbula. Located 471 kilometres south of Sydney, Merimbula rises on the tree-clad hills around Lake Merimbula, which is actually the wide mouth of the Merimbula River.

There are many beaches to be enjoyed around Merimbula. Calm beaches suitable for children are found around the lake foreshores whilst great surfing beaches outside the lake areas offer a variety of waves for surfers. Short point is a particularly popular surf spot. Other beaches around Merimbula include Main Surf, Bar and Middle beaches.

The visitor to Merimbula is not confined only to beach and water activities. Only a short drive from the town will take you to the beautiful Magic Mountain Recreation Park with its two large water slides, mini golf course, pools and toboggan run. All are situated amidst attractive parkland with native flora and fauna and bushwalking tracks.
Lake Merimbula is situated in the Bournda National Park, which divides the northern and southern sections of the park. A known fossil site, Bournda National Park covers an impressive span of coastline consisting of steep cliffs and rugged rock masses in the northern half and excellent surfing and fishing beaches to the south. Both sections of the park are noted for their many great bushwalking tracks.
